Auction Season 2019
It is worldwide auction season. We will turn to Sotheby´s Hong Kong, where a private collector bid via telephone for two of the three most important lots of the season in which the line that was followed was Post-War and Contemporary Art. He invested about 54,4 million dollars. This sum corresponds only to 20% of the total estimated sum that was above 205.7 million dollars. It closed at 270.7 million including all costs that are generated after an auction.
This year was presented with a meek trade and results compared to last year for these seasons.
That afternoon a lot was sold less than last year.
This year the trophies were lower than in past seasons. While the 2018 season offered 22 lots estimated at $ 20 million or more each, this season only counts five (three in Sotheby's and two in Christian's, all but one in contemporary night sales)
Another sign that auction houses may be exploiting a new territory to boost the end result is the incorporation of artists who have never appeared before in night sales, including established but undervalued names such as African-American artists Charles White and
1.-Alma Thomas, owned by the dishonored comedian Bill Cosby, was auctioned under an estimated $ 2.2 million. (TO FANTASTIC SUNSET)
We review history on this topic, pointing out the first time that
Sotheby´s operates as a private company, acquired by French-Israeli tycoon telecom Patrick Drahl - but so far the results are not known under Drahl.
Here we take a tour of the auction week.
